Akpé-Motion is the artistic creation of French jazz musicians Pascal Bouterin and Romain Simeray, natives of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, a Provencal town in the south of France renowned for its artistic culture..... Akpé’s music bristles with energy: daring, unorthodox, and infused with the exotic sounds and textures drawn from a diversity of cultures, instruments, and musical genres; all strongly weaved in jazz..... .. “Speaking” Music .. .... Their improvisational style speaks boldly in melodic phrases, buoyant rhythms, and a collective musical voice..... Akpé’s distinctive sound and musical versatility draw crowds of jazz enthusiasts to their concerts, and music festivals throughout Europe..... .. Native Inspiration .. .... Inspiration for the group’s name came when the duo journeyed to Lomé, the capital of the West African country of Togo, where they spent nights jamming with local musicians, and immersing themselves in the rich reservoir of native sounds and rhythms..... Energized by this incomparable music, they showed their appreciation for the native musicians by adopting the name Akpé, the Togolese word for thank-you..... .. New Album Release ...... Recently, the group joined creative forces with celebrated French Jazz trumpeter and composer Alain Brunet. The result is the album entitled, Docks, a collaborative project deeply rooted in improvisation that showcases the rich and unique dynamism between Akpé-Motion and Brunet. .... The group is preparing to embark on their first U.S. tour this fall to promote the U.S. release of Docks. $10
